PEACH REGENERATION updates

The Canning Town & Custom House Regeneration scheme means that change is coming to our area and members.

Many roads in Custom House are set to be demolished and disappear. On the current agenda to replace what now exists, are new dwellings, facilities, shops and jobs.

At the PEACH launch assembly in April 2012 we voted housing and regeneration as a major concern for all of us. As longstanding residents of Custom House it was very strongly felt that we should help lead and shape the development of our community. We also wanted to make sure that our members felt reassured and secure throughout the process.

An example of our work so far is in Normandy Terrace (Above the shops in Freemasons Road), residents there recently received Decant letters three years earlier than expected. On Saturday 18th January over 20 PEACH members (Tenants and supporters) visited Councillor McAuley to ask for a meeting to discuss the group's conditions for moving. These conditions will ensure stability, affordability and fix current housing issues such as overcrowding.

We are pleased to say that Councillor McAuley has agreed to meet with Normandy Terrace on February 10th.

We Thank him for his prompt response and will let you know of the outcome.

The Golden Sands Chinese Takeaway, Freemasons Road.

Here is Norman and some of his family standing by the message board in his shop.

The board contains over 150 messages of support from loyal customers, but we still need more. So please pop in and show your support for Norman and his family who have been making the best Chinese around for over 35 years! Anyone who has seen their shop on a Friday night knows that they are a successful business which could be a part the regneration scheme, but they need support from the council and developers to make that happen.

We want a fair compensation package and a deal with the developers that allows Norman and the other shopkeepers to carry on trading in Freemasons' Rd.
